Uddhav brings to Compliance Plus an in-depth understanding of compliance built over the course of 14 years working for New Zealand regulators.

Uddhav launched Compliance Plus after spending 3 and a half years helping the Financial Market Authority implement the Anti Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act. Once the law was in place, he saw the need in the market for practical, pragmatic assistance to help institutions meet their obligations under it in an efficient way.

While at FMA, Uddhav played an important part in establishing the AML/CFT regime. He was FMA’s lead writer for most of the AML/CFT guidelines published jointly by the Financial Markets Authority, Department of Internal Affairs and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. He also assisted in designing the templates and process that FMA used when it commenced its AML/CFT supervisory work. It is this understanding that he offers Compliance Plus clients.

Prior to working at FMA he worked in strategic policy at ACC and as an investigative team at the Commerce Commission. Uddhav complemented this work by undertaking studies in transnational organised crime, counter-terrorism and intelligence while completing his Master of Strategic Studies at Victoria University.

Uddhav’s in-depth knowledge of FMA’s expectations of reporting entities under the AML/CFT Act can help you ensure that your business meets its compliance obligations under the AML/CFT Act.

Janaye is Compliance Plus’s analyst. She has exceptional writing skills and makes sure that
our audit reports remain jargon free.

Janaye graduated from Victoria University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in English
Literature and Chinese, and a Graduate Diploma in TESOL. These have helped Janaye hone
her language and writing skills. Prior to completing her English degree in 2017, Janaye

interpreting statute has developed her analytical skills and aided her training in and
understanding of the AML/CFT Act. In June 2020, Janaye was published in Investment News.

As an analyst for Compliance Plus, Janaye helps Uddhav complete AML audits and to edit
the AML/CFT training we deliver through Maxima, our associated business.  Janaye also works
with Lavanya to update and maintain the Compliance Plus website.

Lavanya Sajwan

Lavanya Sajwan

Information Technology Consultant

Lavanya is a current software engineering student at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. She is in her final year of study and currently working on her full year honours project; “Why Do Programmers Do What They Do: A Theory of Influences on Security Practices”. She has an interest in cybersecurity and acknowledges that programmers provide a human aspect to a technical solution. As a result, Lavanya believes that there should be a shift towards understanding the more background ‘soft’ processes that occur when making decisions; why are the choices made based on past influences, and how they affect the programmers work in the present. Behavioural psychology is of interest to her, and she believes that it is utterly crucial to understand the mindset of programmers in order to build a mature security education program in any organisation.

As an Information Technology Consultant for Compliance Plus, Lavanya works alongside Janaye to update and maintain the website. She uses these skills to help other businesses improve their own websites. Lavanya also provides a means of translating more technical jargon into plain language for all team members to understand.

Lavanya is active in the university clubs community as she has been elected in the Women in Tech Committee for the past two years as Networking Liaison in 2019, and in 2020 as the Secretary. She has also completed her Wellington Plus Certificate and is working towards the Wellington Plus Award.
